Address Requirement for Limited Companies & LLPs

Understand the address types required for your company.

Understanding the different types of business addresses is important when setting up and running a UK company. Each address serves a different legal and practical purpose. This article outlines the differences between four key addresses you will have as a business.

Registered Office Address

The registered office address is the official address of your limited company.

This is where:

  • Companies House will send official correspondence for your company
  • HMRC and other government bodies will send legal and tax-related mail when trying to contact your company

It must be a physical UK address and will be publicly visible on the Companies House register

Service Address (Correspondence Address)

A service (or correspondence) address is the official address linked to a company director, secretary, or Person with Significant Control (PSC).

This is:

  • also shown on the Companies House register for that specific individual
  • the address used by government bodies to contact directors or PSCs directly in relation to the company, when needed

Business Address (optional)

A business address is a third-party address service that allows you to present a professional company location.

You can use this address on:

  • Your website
  • Business cards
  • Marketing materials

It helps enhance your corporate image and can keep your personal address private. Please note, this is different to a trading address, which is the physical location of your business.

Trading Address

Your trading address is the actual location where your business operates.

This could be:

  • An office
  • A shop or commercial premises
  • Your home (if you work from home)

Please note:

  • Banks, HMRC, and other third parties may request your trading address
  • This is not a service address and cannot be “purchased” - it must reflect where your business is physically based
